How to switch from ButterflyMX to Luxer One®

A migration playbook for properties moving package management (and optionally access control) from ButterflyMX to Luxer One® and Luxer Access.

Why properties make the switch

ButterflyMX started as an intercom company and later added package rooms. For pure package management at multifamily scale, Luxer One® is a more mature platform: the highest-rated resident app in the category, every major carrier delivering directly into lockers, refrigerated locker options, and a 24/7 US-based support SLA.

Two paths — packages only, or packages + access control

Option A: Keep ButterflyMX for intercom, add Luxer One® for packages

Simplest, lowest disruption. Your ButterflyMX intercom keeps running. Luxer One® handles the package problem separately. Total install runs 4–6 weeks.

Option B: Full replacement with Luxer One® + Luxer Access

Luxer Access is Luxer's unified access-control ecosystem: video intercom, mobile credentials, common-area access, visitor management, and native package-locker integration. Property teams and residents get one app, one vendor, one bill.

FAQs

Can I keep ButterflyMX for intercom and add Luxer One® for packages?

Yes. Many properties run ButterflyMX for video intercom and gate access while using Luxer One® for package management. Alternatively, Luxer Access is Luxer One's own unified access-control platform that covers intercom, common areas, and packages in one app.

How long does the migration take?

4–8 weeks from signed order: 1 week for site survey, 2–3 weeks for hardware, 1 week for install and resident onboarding. Existing ButterflyMX intercom stays running throughout.

What do residents have to do?

Residents install the Luxer One® resident app (or use PIN pickup) and receive a welcome SMS the day of activation. If you're also moving intercom to Luxer Access, they add that app too — otherwise ButterflyMX keeps working.

Which is better — ButterflyMX package rooms or Luxer One®?

For package handling volume at scale, Luxer One® is purpose-built with the highest-rated resident app and every major carrier delivering directly. ButterflyMX's package room offering is newer and less mature; most operators running both keep Luxer One® for packages.

What's the cost difference?

Luxer One® is a one-time hardware investment ($18K–$45K for indoor systems) with a 10-year lifespan. ButterflyMX is a subscription model. Total cost of ownership favors Luxer for package management at properties over 100 units.
